New York: The United Nations has strongly condemned Israel’s continued settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, warning that such actions violate international law and pose a serious threat to regional peace.
A spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that Israeli settlements and state structures in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are “being established in violation of international law.”
UN Warns Against E-One Project
The UN expressed concern over the controversial E-One project, noting that its construction would physically separate the northern West Bank from the south, undermining the prospects for a future Palestinian state.
“The Secretary-General, citing the July 2024 International Court of Justice advice, urged Israeli authorities to immediately halt settlement activities prohibited by international law,” the statement added.
European Union Joins Condemnation
Echoing the UN’s stance, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas also condemned Israel’s plans to build new settlement units in the E-One area, calling the move a direct obstacle to peace efforts.
